Being half Spanish and spending lots of time in Spain over the years, Spanish food is obviously one of my favourite types of food. I've always struggled to find a place that gives the cuisine the justice that it deserves. Lets face it, there are plenty of big named chain restaurants up and down the country doing it badly, and giving the people of England a false representation of what Spanish food is really all about.

What I love about Spanish food, is how they take a couple of simple ingredients and turn it into something special, by giving those ingredients the respect they deserve. I remember growing up, when my dad would make amazing food with just a few ingredients. With a piece of chicken or rabbit, a bottle of beer and couple of veggies, he would knock up an amazing meal.

There is a saying in Spain that The Spanish live to eat and not eat to live and this is so true. Food is a massive part of life in Spain and almost everything revolves around food.

Like I was saying, I've always struggled to find a restaurant that does it well, but then I heard about Tapeo & Wine. I looked them up and started to follow them on Instagram and what I was seeing I was really impressive. All the food looked authentic, and if they tasted half as good as what they looked it was going to be mind blowing. So I added it to the ever growing list of places to try out.

Time had passed and I'd still not had the chance to visit, but by now we had built a relationship via DM's and comments, and then one day they sent me a message inviting me to the restaurant for a special dinner; along with other food bloggers. We were to sample a selection of their most popular dishes from the menu, paired with some of their fantastic wines. The date was set and I could not wait to visit and finally try the food for myself.

The time had come, and from the minute we walked through the door it was a amazing experience. We were greeted by Elena the manager who took us through to a private dining area where we seated, and given a glass of Cava to start off the evening.

Once everyone had arrived, and after a brief introduction and a tour round the restaurant, it was time for the main event THE FOOD; and it did not disappoint. In fact it surpassed my initial expectations. We ate 11 amazing dishes, each one hitting all senses, stunning to look at, almost too good to eat and the flavours and textures were incredible. Each course was like taking a trip around Spain, taking you from the sea to the mountains and everywhere in between. I was so busy taking photos and enjoying myself, that I didn’t make any notes of what we were eating but luckily the beautiful Elena sent me the list of all the dishes......

1) Wild mushroom croquettes served with ali-oli and green mojo sauce.

2) Grilled scallops in shell with celeriac salad, mustard and pomegranate seeds.

3) Broken eggs with ham.

4) Parrillada de Verduras - grilled mixed of vegetables served with Romescu sauce.

5) Canarian style grilled squid.

6) Traditional Spanish Omelette.

7) Grilled goat cheese served with red mojo sauce.

8) Roasted octopus served with hummus, sesame seeds and fried Yuca.

9) Grilled Black pudding with piquillo peppers.

10) Escalibada- warm salad of roasted vegetables served on a toast bread.

11) Grilled Iberico Pork steak served with sweet potato mash and confit shallots.

Plus 4 desserts and coffees and shots.

If you like Spanish food and you want a true taste of Spain, you need to give Tapeo & Wine a go. I guarantee you won't leave disappointed, and you may even bump into one of the Manchester United players having pre-match tapas.

As well as amazing food, they also do lots of different events from FREE Spanish lessons, Whisky nights, Flamenco nights etc. Jump on their website and sign up for email notifications, like their pages on social media, and keep an eye out on my Instagram stories as I’ll be posting lots of stuff for them.

It’s a good job I don’t live in Manchester otherwise I would be there every day and night and I’d have no money.

I cant wait to visit again and try the rest of the menu.
